Possible IC relabelling

AMD 29F040.jpg According to AMD's data sheet on the AM29F040, the electronic signature (device ID) that the AM29F040 returns is 01A4  (01A4 = AMD 29F040).

The AMD branded IC on the left instead returns C2A4  (C2A4 = Micronix 29F040).

Purposely relabelled to a make (AMD) that can command more money ?

Or, to keep things simple, all 29F040 get relabelled with the same label ?
SST 27SF256.png According to SST's data sheet on the SST 27SF256, the electronic signature (device ID) that the SST 27SF256 returns is BFA3  (BFA3 = SST 27SF256).

The SST branded IC on the left instead returns DA02  (DA02 = Windbond W27E257).
Mislabelled V20.jpg The problem here is that "V20" is inconsistent with "D70116".
V20 = D70108
V30 = D70116

This is a mistake that one would not expect NEC to make.

An example of IC relabelling at here.
