Main battery
Powers the laptop when no AC adapter is being used. Photos at here.
The T1100 will not work if you simply remove the main battery. That is because the battery forms part of the power circuit. Some additional information about the battery, including ways of bypassing a missing or faulty battery, is at here.
Battery within 5.25" and 3.5" External FDD
Page 5-58 of the T1100 maintenance manual indicates that both the 5.25" and 3.5" external floppy disk drives contain a "Ni-Cad Battery Unit".

For the external 3.5" drive, a drawing showing the battery is on page 3-23.
