Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDT  -  Batteries

This information may be suitable for the Toshiba Satellite Pro 430CDS and 435CDS as well.

Main Battery

PA2487U
This is the battery that powers the 430CDT when no AC mains power (house AC power) cable is plugged in.

If your battery is faulty, then note that the battery can be removed and the 430CDT operated from AC power alone.

Battery status indicator

On the top of the 430CDT is a panel of 7 indicators.  The one second from right (a battery symbol) indicates main battery status per:

NOT LIT:  AC power is not connected, or main battery is missing.
LIT ORANGE:  AC power connected, and main battery is charging.
LIT GREEN:  AC power connected, and main battery is fully charged.

CMOS/RTC Battery

This is a small 3.6V rechargeable battery of type Ni-MH.

It is located under the keyboard.  Click here for a photo.
Click here for procedure on how to get under the keyboard.

If it is faulty, you will see the following error messsage each time you power on the computer:
**** Bad RTC battery ****
**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system.  Then press [F1] key.
After swapping the faulty CMOS/RTC battery with a good one, the error message will not go away until after you have done a "Save changes and Exit" at the SYSTEM SETUP screen.

One Toshiba part number for the battery is P71007006036, a number found on the battery.  The P71007006036 is made by Varta, specifically, it is a Varta model 3/V30H fitted with a 3-pin female PicoBlade (not a JST).  If you are planning on purchasing a 3/V30H, look at the connector on it very carefully.  I've seen 3/V30H with what appears to be an identical connector, but on close inspection, the connector was the wrong type.

A Varta model 3/V40H may be a suitable replacement.  It looks like it could fit, but for all I know, it may be a little too big.  Again, make sure that the connector is of the correct type.

Backup/Resume Battery

Toshiba refer to this battery as the 'backup' battery, but I prefer to call it the 'resume' battery because it supports the 'resume' mode - see here.

This is a 7.2V rechargeable battery of type Ni-MH.

It is located under the keyboard.  Click here for a photo.
Click here for procedure on how to get under the keyboard.

This battery is only required if you run your 430CDT in 'resume' mode.  In my 430CDT, this battery was leaking and because I don't use resume mode, I simply removed the battery (providing no replacement).

One Toshiba part number for the battery is P71007005015, a number found on the battery.
